I think Rian nailed it. You are on the brink of something .... Can't wait to see what it will be. Your post made me all nostalgic,too. I still have my book of fabrics, made in a Textile course (when I was learning to make hats and taking design classes). Given all the "things" that have flowed through my life, it's interesting that I have held into it. And it's funny now to remember the motivation to sew garments was because as a younger woman I was too tall and too thin to find ready-to-wear that would fit (and now, the problem of fit is a much different one ;-)

No, not really because the fabrics in the original quilt were pretty thin. If anything it makes the quilt heavy (by hot Houston standards). The batting in the original quilt was a pretty dense polyester-better than some I have come across. I use lots of alternative battings (as you know) and the biggest issue I have is making quilts dark so the fleece blankets don't show through. I have to find a solution because I don't really like quilting on dark fabrics but my stack of dark fleece blankets seems to be increasing.

If you really get into quilting, you'll discover you go through batting quickly. I've gone through 2 whole batts. I'm waiting for the next 50% sale & trying to use my alternative stack up. I usually pick up those thrifted fleece blankets for less than $3 so I can't resist them, costwise, compared to batting. And, the fleece quilts nicely and it's a great reuse for those nubby blankets people donate.

The chinese merchant made money selling it to the US vendor, the US vendor made money selling it to the store, the store made money selling it to the customer, the customer donated it, a picker bought it so the donation store made money, then the picker sold it to the flea market vendor, the flea market vendor made money from me and now Laura will make some money when she sells it. That's alot of hands and some money for such a piece of quilty crap to begin with!

Isn't it funny how you and I are always on the same "wavelength" though working in different mediums.We both feel the tug of nostalgia and the urge to create; you have a grounded sense of time and place for your nostalgic past and I don't and am always looking for it. Whatever you make or however you decide to do things I almost suspect the finished result won't be the most important part for you:)

For me it's a link with the previous generations. I never knew any past my grandparents but I feel connected to those women because I know enough of their history to know they sewed and quilted. Most likely their one creative outlet was the sewing and quilting.
