For once in my life, I'd like to make something that doesn't require so much brainpower. Oh, nah, what fun would that be??
Here's the basic layout-
I can already tell you that I want an inner border--I don't like the jump from the reds to the beiges.
There's alot of blue in the embroideries already, so I like the idea of a blue inner border.
I am not going to make little CQ blocks. Cross that off the list right now. I'm thinking more of an embroidered border with either holiday motifs or snow/star tone on tone repeating motifs.
I'm having a little issue with mixing too many holiday motifs with the religious motifs. I like nature or the ornaments hanging from the tree but that's about it.
Love this combination of Christmas ribbons all piled on top of each other---gives lots of good areas for hand embroidery--good for very inner border
Lots of blues in the ornaments and I can certainly add more blues and purples, greens or whatever through the hand embellishing.
I'm open for suggestions but don't be mad if I don't use them! I love these colors and motifs so I bet I could work on this all year. Who knows, right?

Couple Issues:
- something between the 2 poinsettia sprays---maybe a bird in a wreath-would tie in with the cardinals in the bottom corners
- don't want any more words since I have some already
- should probably go ahead and make the middle section look more CQ--I am 4 blocks short of the 12 suggested for the CQJP--might as well go for the full enchilada.
- I could make the embroideries as CQ blocks and blend them into the background (likely choice)
- need to come up with an arrangement where they are not all lined up--more angels?
- background fabrics are too thin for the embroideries--they need to be quilted or stabilized--as more of a CQ block that would help

This is a nice heavy silk that would embroider well so I will probably use it for the inner border. The section is about 3" wide.
Have a Creative Day, Y'All!

Been watching your progress here...it's just gorgeous! The idea for blue sounds really wonderful. You should certainly see if you could hit the requ's for the CQJP.
ReplyDeleteI think you're off to a strong start. I like the idea of including CQ blocks in the center area (for continuity more than for the challenge). I think you have enough figures/embroidery, and the CQ would create an interesting background for them.
ReplyDeleteThis is truly going to be a work of art.
ReplyDeleteI think it's coming along beautifully and I really like the idea of the light blue inner border.
ReplyDeleteI think having a light blue inner border will really work out well. It will certainly pick up some of the hues of the embroidery.
ReplyDeleteWow! I really like how this is shaping up. The light blue is a nice surprise and provides interesting contrast, I think. The embroideries are beautiful, but I like the idea of adding more CQ elements (and leaving yourself some room to stitch and embellish.)
ReplyDeleteTerrific! Don't change anything!
ReplyDeleteI may have missed it, but what is the color plan for the crazy quilt blocks in the center? Are you planning on including some red? That would tie the center to the border.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Katie about the blue border. It's unexpected too. I love the ribbon border idea. The embroideries are so lovely.
ReplyDeleteThis is so lovely. The embroidery and the colors are just striking. Wishing you a blessed New Year! blessings,Kathleen
