Homeless Teen Quilts: At the Midway Point
We're at the Halfway Point with this being Number 10 Done!
This was a very large quilt and I wanted it to fit the twin sized bedspread I had so I trimmed a few rows off. Then, I used them to extend the size of the twin sheet I had so in the end it all worked out well. It kinda gives 2 looks for the same quilt so a person could flip the quilt over if she wanted.
Bound and ready to go! The Counselor told me they have some middle school kids who are homeless and I assume they are living with parents so this may go to a family (or single mom) since it is pretty large. As I was working on it, I thought about how much I am learning with my mid-arm; that is just one of the wonderful aspects of quilting--everyone is always at some stage of learning. There are always newbies coming along.
Thank You, Jan for a fun quilt top! Onward to the other ones!
Have a Creative Day!

I love the texture that the quilting provided. It really seems to suit the patterns-it just all works and will be useful for someone to boot!
Don't you just love it to when you learn new things about your machine plus discover alternatives to traditional batting?
Thanks Debra:)
It turned out great. You gotta keep teasing me with comments about that mid-arm don't ya????
Hmm...what's the texture of the bedspread like? Similar to what is on a hotel bed, or something like that? Thicker? I will have to keep that in mind for future thrifting. The quilt looks really great!
Thanks for posting the pics of the quilt. I am so happy it has found a wonderful person to give it new life! It was a learning experience for me to make it and now a learning experience for you and your mid arm. Perhaps it will continue to be a learning experience for the person that gets it - that people care.
Thank you for the link to my blog. Work has kept me from posting about my quilting as much as I'd like. I have projects in the works but no pics up yet.
Thanks again.
PS - I love the pattern you have quilted on it!
The quilt looks great--nice and snuggly--and the quilting really compliments the design. I also want to know what kind of bedspreads you're using. Are they those quilted ones? Have you tried more than one kind?
I've used a lot of flannel sheets for batting and I always look for them in the thrift store.
I glanced at the quilting last night. Before I even came in the office I noted how FULL-CIRCLE this is. Just by chance, you're getting to really learn about your quilting while you're making these. That wasn't even the point.
Gotta pay attention, especially to the Full Circle stuff. That's another sign you're workin' your life in the right direction.
I am just using the standard quilted bedspread you can buy just about anywhere--like the ones you used to see in hotels until they began using comforters. So far, it's the only one I have found in thrift stores priced less than $5.00. I bought the two twin spreads for $4 each which is a lot of batting for the price. Plus, I like that they are already quilted so no shifting of fibers.
Great quilt and for such a good cause. Kuddos to you!

I had just been thinking that you must be learning a lot since you've been finishing so many in such a short period of time. It made me wonder...congrats on the halfway mark!
Wonderfully fun quilt for the midpoint!
Learning new things is half the pleasure, isn't it? The quilt is great, and I do hope the homeless middle schoolers are with at least one parent!
