Needlepoint on eBay

Isn't this just lovely?

I paid 99¢ for it last night on eBay. It will be arriving this week with 2 other lovely needlepoint pieces from Illinois. Apparently the seller found the Mother Lode of needlepoint pieces and I took 3 off her hands. I wanted more but I had already bought about 3 from other vendors. I am planning to make some needlepoint pillows for the family room (eventually).

I have a real weakness for needlepoint--so weak I also bid on a kit for a scrumptious sunflower pillow. Like crazyquilting, I am branching out into some areas I have "wanted" to do for years.

I am just totally surprised at the quality of completed needlework that shows up on eBay for low prices (except the quilts). My bird/nature crazy quilt will be almost exclusively from small bird motifs I have found in the completed cross stitch section for $3.50 or less. I just bought a velveteen backed needlepunch (old) of birds at a fountain for $7.00.

It's just fun to buy other's pieces to incorporate into my crazy quilt or my house. I can't do it all! (I know--I give it my best Girl Scout effort! *wink*)

And wait until you see the beautiful Madonna picture I bought for the holidays! Framed and ready to hang for $8; all totally needlepointed!

  1. I really like your crazy quilt idea. Those birds are going to find a good home. It always gives me a good feeling to put things like this to good use, to give them a new lease on life. I noticed you've got a bird theme going in your decor so this quilt will make a wonderful addition.

  2. I think the birds would look great as a pillow in your tropical living room. The black would pick up the lamps, not to mention the other colors are just perfect.

  3. Sounds like you are getting quite a collection going. I have been wanting to start a crazy quilt and been slowly collecting things to use. Just haven't quite got the umph to get started on it yet. LOL

  4. I too love recycling discarded needlework. I have incorporated into my crazy quilt a few pieces of embroidery and crochet picked up in antique malls for a dollar or two. I couch them onto velvet or wool patches, using decorative threads to anchor them. A couple of them I have even sliced in half or quarters, though it makes me a little queasy when I do that. I figure it's better to be used in my crazy quilt than to lie around, moldering in some antique booth for decades. (Though it seems to be moldering away in my UFO basket right now!)
